Biography: Age 33, S.G. Purvis is a fitter, and comes from Belfast - and very naturally most of his experience has been in Ireland. In 1957, for example, he was Irish Grass Track Champion, whilst in 1959 he won events In the Carrowdore, Skerries and Temple "100's" and in the Killinchy "150," finishing up the season as Irish Champion. Last year he was second in the Killinchy "150" and third in the Skerries "100," whilst he was second in the 500 c.c. class of the Cookstown "100" last month. His Matchless is a 1960 model, whilst his Ajay is a "this year's." (TT Special, 16 June 1961, p.8.)
