Fritz Scheidegger
Record type: Motorsport Biographies
Biography: Age 30, Fritz Scheidegger is a "mechaniker" and comes from Berne, Switzerland. Under "successes to date" on our "Who's Who" form he wrote in 1959: "1 Barcelona, 1 Salzburg, 1 Zandvoort, 3 Halle-Saale (DDR)," so he has obviously won some races —presumably on his B.M.W. sidecar.
Just before that year's T.T, he won the Sidecar class of the French Grand Prix, beating W. Schneider by over a minute, and in the Island he was third in the Sidecar T.T. at 69.42 m.p.h. He was a member of the winning Manufacturer's Team and was also awarded the Ray B. Westover and Overseas Newcomer's Trophies. Back on the Continent he was fifth in the German Grand Prix, third in the "Belgian" and second in the "Czechoslovakian," whilst in April last year was third in the "Spanish," and in May second in the French Grand Prix—all with his B.M.W. outfit.
Fritz was third on the opening lap of last year's Sidecar T.T., and fourth on the second lap; then he slowed down, however, and finished 11th, with a Bronze Replica. He did much better on the Continent—third in the Dutch T.T. and German Grand Prix and second in the Belgian and Czechoslovakian G.P.'s and in the Eifelrennen and Senora de Pilar races. This year he has already scored five more seconds — in the Eifelrennen again, and in the Spanish, Austrian, Saar and German Grands Prix, whilst last Whit Sunday he won the Sidecar class of the Frend Grand Prix.
