Biography: Age 31, Walter Schnieder is a motor car mechanic and comes from Weidenau-Sieg, Germany. In 1954 he was fourth in the Sidecar TT, driving a producation racer BMW, and later made the round of the Championship circuits. He was placed second in the German GP, fourth in the Swiss and fifth in the Ulster, Belgian and Italian events.

In 1955 he won the Sidecar TT at the record speed of 70.01 mph and his Continental record included second place in the Italian GP and 'thirds' at Solitude and in the German and Belgian races. He was all set for a second Sidecar TT win in 1956 and was leading when he retired on Lap 3. Team-mate W. Noll (BMW) then took over but he too retired leaving the third BMW team member F. Hillebrand to score his first TT win.

Last year, of course, Hillebrand won again, but this time Schneider was second at 71.21 mph and less than a minute behind the winner. A month later Walter won the Sidecar class of the Belgian Grand Prix, and at the end of the season he was runner up to Hillebrand (then deceased) in the Sidecar World's Championship. He has started this season well by winning the Sidecar World's Championship. He has started this season well by winning the Sidecar class of last month's Austrian Grand Prix. Walter's hobbies are fishing and country rambling.

Last year he was fourth in the sidecar T.T. driving a production-racer B.M.W., and later made the round of the Championship circuits. He was placed second in the German G.P., fourth in the Swiss and fifth in the Ulster, Belgian and Italian events.
