Biography: Age 32, Douglas Smith is a haulage contractor and comes from Drumclog, by Strathaven, Lanarkshire. This is his first T.T. but he is no newcomer to the Mountain course for he rode in the 1958 Junior Snaefell Race, finishing 14th and was 36th in the Junior Manx the next day. He rode in the Junior Manx again in 1959, and came home 32nd at 82.40 m.p.h. with a replica; he had to retire, however, in last year's Senior Manx. (TT Special, 16 June 1961, p. 16.)

Age 31, Douglas Smith is a haulage contractor and comes from Drumclog, near Strathaven, Lanarkshire. He has competed in Scottish speed events regularly since 1954, and was 14th in the 1958 350 c.c. Snaefell race on an A.J.S. at 78.30 m.p.h. This placing earned him a ride in the Junior Manx of the following day in which he finished 36th, at an increased speed – 79.88 m.p.h.

Last year he picked up a few places, finishing 32nd in the Junior on a Norton at 82.40 m.p.h. and winning a replica.
