Biography: Alan's first appearance on the Isle of Man was the 1948 Junior Clubman’s TT when he finished in sixth place. However, it was later found by the official measurer that the engine on his Triumph was oversized and the stewards found it necessary to exclude him from the results but without a stain on his character as he had ridden the machine in all innocence. Francis Beart the engine tuner later issued an apology to the rider and to his entrant, the North Lincs. Club, stating that the rebore of 0.020in was an unfortunate mistake made at his works. It had been wrongly assumed that the Triumph was 343cc. Alan returned to the Isle Of Man in 1950 only to lose his life during a morning practice session.
