Les J. Archer

Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Mount: Lightweight – New Imp.

Aged 39, a motor agent at Aldershot and a familiar figure at Brooklands and in the Island. Les. Archer (“the Aldershot Flyer”) has had a long association with T.T., riding New Imperials and Velocettes – he holds nine replicas. His numerous successes at Brooklands include the Hutchinson 100 Trophy for covering 100 miles in the hour on a 350 Velocette, and he was the first rider to achieve a world’s record in excess of 100 m.p.h. on a 250 c.c. machine. He has also collected various awards at Donington. Hobby – following motor cycle sport and taking an active interest in local motor cycling clubs.

We used to see “Les. Archer and Pa” over here every year. Now Les’s own son, 18 year-old L. R. Archer, is in the game and is riding in the Clubman’s T.T.

Of his own Lightweight mount, Les. Says “it is the same one that I have used for many years. It started life as a Works Team model when Foster and Wood were similarly mounted. It shows signs of age, but we are hoping for the best.”
