Biography: Age 35, a master butcher, of Coventry, Sydney Barnett is no newcomer to the T.T. course, for he rode in the Manx Grand Prix of 1946 and 1947. He finished eighth in the Senior of the first year and fifth in the Junior of the next year, both times on Nortons. He has also had successes at Donington, Cadwell Park, Scarborough and elsewhere.
Last year, he turned "International" and rode in the Junior and Senior T.T.s, retiring on the fourth lap in each event. Has already scored at Haddenham, Ansty and Eppynt this year, making record lap for the course at the Welsh meeting; won the first race at the Haddenham May meeting, but "stepped off" whilst leading in the second event due to wet tar on the road.
He is entered by J.W. Bates for both of this year's events. His Norton is one of the new "double-knocker" models, whilsst his A.J.S. is last year's 7R brought up to 1949 standard.

Sydney Barnett is 37 years of age, and is a master butcher of Coventry. He as been riding in the Isle of Man since 1946, in which year he finished seventh in the Senior M.G.P. The next year he moved up a couple of places, finishing fifth in the Junior “Manx,” and in 1948 competed in both Junior and Senior T.T. races, being unlucky enough to retire on the fourth lap of each event. Last year, on an A.J.S., he finished 14th in the Junior T.T. at 79.9 m.p.h., but retired – again in the fourth lap – in the Senior race of the following Friday.

Barnett has had many short-circuit successes at places such as Cadwell Park, Scarborough, Eppynt, and Blandford. He is holder of the 350 lap record at Scarborough and the 500 lap record at Eppynt. Hobby: Soccer.

He is entered for both races by Arter Bros., of Barham, Canterbury.

Junior - A.J.S.
Senior - Norton

Age 39, Syd Barnett is a master butcher of Coventry. He has been riding in the Island since 1946, when he finished seventh in the Senior Manx Grand Prix. The next year he moved up a couple of places to fifth in the “Junior” Manx. In 1948 he competed in both the Junior and Senior T.T., but was unlucky in having to retire in fourth lap of each event. He was 14th in the Junior T.T. of 1949, averaging 79.9 m.p.h., but retired again in the fourth lap of the Senior race.

He finished 17th in the 1950 Junior T.T. at 80.22 m.p.h., and 36th in the Senior at 78.57 m.p.h., riding an A.J.S. each time. Last year Syd won a first class replica in the Junior T.T., finishing 19th at 82.15 m.p.h. He was a non-starter in the Senior, being urgently called home.

Syd has many short circuit successes at places such as Cadwell Park, Scarborough, Eppynt, and Blandford. At one-time he held the 350 lap record at Scarborough and the 500 at Eppynt. He was ninth in the 1951 Silverstone Hutchinson “100”. Last month he won the 10-lap Senior race at Eppynt.
