Biography: Age 28, a precision engineer, of Harrow, Middlesex, Ernie Barrett started grass track racing in 1946 at Folkestone, Lyden HIll, Faversham and elsewhere and won the Novice's Cup at the end of the season at Brand's Hatch.
Began road racing in 1947 and competed at Ansty, Abridge and Dunholme. Came into the limelight last year when in the Lightweight "Manx" he finished second on a Guzzi to Dickie Dale.
His 7R A.J.S. has been lent by Kenneth Carter to the Sidcup and District M.C.C., who have entered Barrett for the Junior.
Hobby: Weight-lifting.

Faversham and elsewhere and won the Novice’s Cup at the end of the season at Brand’s Hatch.

He began road racing in 1947 and competed at Abridge, Ansty and Dunholme.

He came into the limelight in 1948 when in the Lightweight “Manx” he finished second on a Guzzi to Dickie Dale at 69.77 m.p.h.

Last year he turned “International” and rode an A.J.S. in the Junior T.T. being forced to retire in the third lap, however, with transmission trouble.

Was usually in the picture at Ansty, Silverstone and Blandford meetings, winning a heat at the latter circuit at 82 m.p.h.

He is entered for both races by the Sidcup and District M.C.C.

Aged 30, a precision engineer of Tottenham, London N.15. Ernie Barrett started grass track racing in 1946 at Folkestone, Lyden Hill, Faversham and elsewhere and won the Novice’s Cup at the end of the season at Brands Hatch.

He began road racing in 1947 and competed at Abridge, Ansty and Dunholme. He came into the limelight in 1948 when in the Lightweight “Manx” he finished second on a Guzzi to Dickie Dale at 69.77 mph.

In 1949 he turned “International” and rode an AJS in the Junior TT being forced to retire in the third lap, however, with transmission trouble.

Was usually in the picture at Ansty, Silverstone and Blandford meetings, winning a heat at the latter circuit at 82 mph.

In 1950 he was 62nd in the Junior TT at a speed of 69.10 mph but was forced to retire at the end of the sixth lap in the Senior. He was riding a Norton in each event. In the Ulster Grand Prix, two months later, also on a Norton, he won the 500cc class handicap.

Hobby: Weight-lifting.

He is entered by Arter Bros. Ltd of Canterbury, for both races.

Age 31, Ernie Barrett, a precision engineer, of Tottenham, London, started competitive on the road in 1947 after a successful spell on grass. He came into the limelight in 1948 when in the Lightweight “Manx” he finished second on a Guzzi to Dickie Dale at 69.77 m.p.h. He turned “International” in 1949, but had an unlucky debut, for he was forced to retire in the third lap of the Junior T.T. when his A.J.S. suffered transmission trouble. He was very prominent, however, at Ansty, Silverstone and Blandford.
In 1950 he was 62nd in the Junior T.T. at a speed of 69.10 m.p.h. , but he retired at the end of the sixth lap of the Senior. Ernie won the 500 c.c. handicap class of the Ulster Grand Prix two months later.

Last season he had an unsuccessful time on the Island, but was 14th in the Junior events of the Dutch T.T. and the French Grand Prix, and also finished 17th in the Senior event of the latter.

He was quickly off the mark this season with a well-earned second place in the Lightweight race at the Silverstone April meeting.

Hobbies: Weight-lifting, swimming and diving.

He is entered by Brands Hatch Stadium Ltd.
