Senior – Matchless

Age 37, Louis Carr comes from Gateshead-on-Tyne and is a motorcycle mechanic. He turned ‘International’ in 1954, having ridden in the Clubman’s T.T. and the Manx Grand Prix.

He began racing in 1936 and from then until the outbreak of war rode in grass track events. His first road race was the 1950 Clubman’s ‘1,000’ in which he finished fifth on a Vincent “Rapide”. He rode a Triumph “Tiger 100” in the 1952 Senior Manx, finishing 23rd and winning a silver replica and improved upon this a year later, being 18th in the same race.

He is entered by the Seaton Delaval M.C.C for this year’s Senior race.

In the 1956 Senior T.T. he had quite a good ride finishing 27th at 85.34 on his G.45 Matchless. In 1957 he was 18th in the Junior at 85.84 m.p.h. (Silver Replica) and 36th in the Senior (Bronze). He also has done quite a lot of short circuit racing and has scored first, seconds and thirds at Charterhall, Scarborough, Silverstone and Thruxton. Last year he was 34th in the Junior T.T. at 85.81 m.p.h, winning a Silver replica and shortly afterwards riding with Derek Powell, he was third on a B.S.A. in the Thruxton "500". At Cattarick three weeks later he was second in the 350 c.c. race, and he wound up the season by winning the 12 lap 350 c.c. race at Scarbouragh on 18th September.
