Age 23, George Catlin is a farmer from Wragby, Lincs, who first rode in the T.T. in 1955, finishing 29th in the Junior and 32nd in the Senior race. He began racing on grass tracks and in scrambles in 1949 and turned to road racing in 1951, with successes at Cadwell Park, Osmaston and Alton Towers.

Riding Norton machines he competed in both Manx G.P. events in 1954, retiring in the Junior race, but finishing 25th in the Senior event. At Cadwell Park (Easter, 1956) George won the 500 c.c. race, was second in the 1,000 c.c., and second again in the 350 c.c. event.

He struck trouble in both last year’s T.T. races, being forced to retire on the second lap of the Junior and the fifth lap of the Senior.
