Dave Chadwick

Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Mounts: Junior – Norton
Senior – Norton

Age 25, Dave Chadwick is a diesel engine fitter from Northenden, Manchester, who seems to be equally at home in trials, scrambles and road races.

He competed in the 1953 Junior Manx, retiring after three laps, but did much better in the 1954 Senior Clubman’s event, in which he finished seventh. At Scarborough he won the 250 c.c. class and set up a new lap record at 58.39 m.p.h., while at Altcar he won both 250 c.c. and 500 c.c. events and was second in the 350 c.c. class. Later in the season he was 250 c.c. “Cheshire Championship” winner at Oulton Park.

Dave was second in the 1954 Junior Manx, then turned to the T.T. in 1955, in which he was sponsored by Reg Dearden. He was awarded silver replicas for fifth place in the Lightweight race, and 25th in the Senior, and later in the season came back to the Island to win the 250 c.c. class of the “Southern 100.”

In last year’s Island races he showed considerable improvement finishing 13th on a Norton in the Junior, 23rd on the same make in the Senior and 5th on the L.E.F. (incidentally the first British machine and rider placing) in the Ultra-Lightweight event. But a troublesome clutch on his M.V. spoilt his ride in the 250 c.c. event and he retired on his sixth “tour”.

A keen clubman, Dave says that he enjoys building and experimenting with motor cycle engines, and takes a great interest in the social side of club life.
