Biography: Age 24, Alastair Robert Copland is a motor cycle tester and comes from Corby, Northants. He started racing in 1958, but he had served three years in the Royal Signals Display Team and had ridden in many Army trials.
Coming over to the Island in 1958 he rode in the 500 c.c. Snaefell race and finished 12th at 74.91 m.p.h. This placing earned him a ride in the Senior Manx, in which he also finished 42nd at 78.28 m.p.h. He picked up several places in the 1959 Senior, coming home 31st on his B.S.A., only about three minutes outside replica time. (TT Special, 5 September 1961, p9)
