Age 29, Peter Davey is an electrical mains worker, and comes from Sleaford, Lincs. He has had experience on most of the well-known “short circuits” and is in particular a Cadwell Park expert. He won the Junior Championship there in 1950, and the Senior Championship for several years in succession.

Before he turned to the T.T. in 1953 he had quite a knowledge of the Island course. In 1951, for instance, he rode a Norton in the Senior Manx Grand Prix and, coming on to the Leader Board on the fifth lap in sixth position, stayed there to the finish, averaging 82.69 m.p.h. and winning a replica.

He rode in both Junior and Senior Manx races in 1952 and won replicas in both. In the Junior he was twelfth, on an A.J.S., at 79.63 m.p.h. In the Senior, Norton mounted, he ran fourth on the first two laps, and drew into third place at half-distance, behind Derek Farrant and Bob McIntyre; and there he stayed to the end, averaging 87.17 m.p.h. for the six laps – a higher speed, incidentally, than that at which the Senior Manx was won the previous year.

He retired after five laps of the 1953 Junior T.T., but went extremely well to finish sixth in the Senior, in which he was the first “privateer” home, gaining for his entrant, Reg Dearden, the “Motor Cycling” challenge cup.

He did even better in 1954 by finishing fifth in the Junior T.T. and 11th in the Senior event, once again winning the “Motor Cycling” Cup.

In 1955 he retired in the Junior, but won a Silver Replica in the Senior by finishing tenth at 89.92 m.p.h.
