Ben Drinkwater
Record type: Motorsport Biographies
Biography: Mounts: Junior – Norton
Lightweight – Excelsior
Aged 35. Is managing director of a firm of Motor Engineers in Rochdale. During the war was a Railway Signalman and a Sergeant in the Home Guard, in charge of the D.R. Section – which probably suited him nicely.
One of the many T.T. graduates from the M.G.P., Drinkwater rode in the Manx in 1937 and 1938, finishing sixth in the latter year, and in last year’s M.G.P. Lightweight he came very near to winning. On the first, second, third and fourth laps he was at the top of the leader board, but on the fifth lap he was overhauled by Parsons, the winner, who beat him by the narrow margin of 27.4 4/5th seconds.
His Junior and Lightweight machines are privately entered.
(TT Special, 9 June 1947, p.11.)
Sadly died competing in the 1949 Junior TT.
