Geoff Eccles

Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Age 34, Geoffrey Eccles is a company director and comes from Bolton, Lancs. He has had several years racing experience on Velocette and B.S.A. machines, and has competed regularly at Aintree, Oulten Park, Silverstone, etc. In 1959 he had several successes, including the Visitors Award in the Killinchy "150" and a third in the Junior class of the Temple '100.'
The 1960 Junior was his first T.T. but he had already had experience of the Mountain Course. In 1958 he rode in the 350 c.c. Snaefell race and finished 15th on his B.S.A. at 78.05 m.p.h. This qualified him for a ride in the Junior Manx Grand Prix, in which he was unlucky enough to run out of petrol on the last lap at the Gooseneck. In 1959 he rode his B.S.A. in the Junior Manx again and this time finished 33rd at 82.34 m.p.h., winning a silver replica.
Eccles was 40th in last year's Junior T.T., averaging 84.42 m.p.h. and collecting a Bronze Replica. Later in the month he was third on handicap in the Killinchy "150", taking the same position in the Temple "100" in July. (TT Special, 12 June 1961, p. 23)
