Age 32, Frank Fox is a motorcycle engineer from Wortley, near Sheffield. His first appearance as an “International” rider was in June 1954, but he was already well acquainted with the course by virtue of his 1953 Junior Manx Grand Prix win at 84.73 m.p.h. on a Norton.
He first rode in the “Manx” in 1951, finishing 27th in the Junior race, and followed this by a 13th place in the 1952 Senior Manx, for which he was awarded a silver replica.
He has a liking for the Irish courses, and his 1954 record included first in the 350 c.c. AN Tostal race in Dublin in May, first in the 350 c.c. class of the Leinster Two “100s” a week later, and 12th in the 350 c.c. class of the North West “200.”
He retired in the Junior T.T. but finished 38th in the Senior event to gain a Bronze Replica. Later in the year he went back to Ireland to win the 350 c.c. class of Munster “100” and the Championship of Ireland in that class. Frank was also placed second in the 500 c.c. class of the Skerries “100.”
In 1955 he was 13th in the Junior T.T. at 85.95 m.p.h. (Silver Replica) but retired on the fifth lap of the Senior. Last year he rode M.V.’s in the Lightweight and 125 c.c. races, retiring in both, but won a Silver Replica in the Senior by finishing 16th at 88.94.
