Age 38, “Sid Franklen” is a motor-cycle dealer from East Ham, London, with four years’ experience of the Island course. In the 1948 Manx Grand Prix he retired after crashing, and the next year he finished ninth in the Junior “Manx,” averaging 77.14 m.p.h. on his A.J.S. to win a replica. In the Senior event of the same year he took 24th place on a 350 c.c. machine. Sid was also 24th in the 1949 Clubman’s T.T. A spill at practice stopped him riding in the 1950 T.T., but the following year he was 16th in the Senior, averaging 81.42 m.p.h. on his bored-out 350 c.c. A.J.S., to win a bronze replica.

His mount this year is the model he used in last year’s Junior and Senior T.T. races. He is his own entrant.

Age 38, Sid Franklen is a motorcycle agent from Plaistow, London.

He rode in the Island in the 1948 Manx Grand Prix but retired in a spill, finished ninth in the Junior Manx in 1949 gaining a replica, and was 24th, also in the Clubman’s TT that year. In 1950 he crashed in practice and was a non-starter. He has also competed at Silverstone, Goodwood etc.

He is his own entrant and is riding a 7R AJS in both races.
