Age 25, Eric Houseley is a motor mechanic and comes from Clay Cross, near Chesterfield.

Last year was his first “go” at the International T.T., but he had already ridden several times over the T.T. course. In 1951 he rode a B.S.A in the Junior Clubman’s T.T., but retired on the first lap. In the Senior Manx, three months later, he was again unfortunate, retiring on the fourth lap.

He came into prominence in the 1952 Junior Clubman’s when, on his B.S.A., he led the race from the start and won at the record speed of 78.92 m.p.h. In the Senior Clubman’s race, however, he retired on the second lap. He rode Nortons in both Junior and Senior Manx Grands Prix in 1952, retiring in the former but coming home tenth in the Senior, with a replica, at 85.40 m.p.h.

Last year he rode Nortons in three of the four T.T. races, retiring in both Lightweight and Junior events, but finishing 13th in the Senior.
