Biography: Age 34, Ross Porter is a partner in the 'Porters of Spalding' motor cycle agency in Spalding, Lincs. Ross began racing at Cadwell in 1946, using a 1936 Excelsior Manxman, and was later seen at Ansty, Silverstone, Oulton Park and Snetterton riding various machines, including a 250 cc Velocette, a 250 cc Triumph, a 7R AJS and a 125 cc Royal Enfield - but alas, the highest position gained was a 3rd.

Ross was 56th, on a BSA in the 1949 Junior Clubman's, after a stop to repair a broken oil pipe. He was 34th in the 1951 Junior Manx, on his AJS and 27th in the 1952 Junior and 36th in the 1952 Senior 'Manxes' on the same machine. In the 1954 Junior TT his first as an 'International' rider, Ross rode a 1939 Velocette, and was 52nd. He switched to a 125 cc. M.V. for 1955, with successes which included a win at Snetterton, second place at Brand's Hatch and sixth place in the 125 cc TT. In the 125 cc TT of 1956 Ross retired after two laps in an event notable for mass retirements! Last year, in the same race, he was also unlucky, retiring in the second lap. He is entered for both this year's races by Porters of Spalding.

Velocette, a 250 c.c. Triumph, a 7R A.J.S. and a 125 c.c. Royal Enfield – but alas, the highest position gained was a “3rd”.

The 250 Velo was quick enough, as was demonstrated by Rudy Allison in winning at Cadwell in 1954, breaking the one-lap and eight-lap records. Rudy incidentally, was entered by Ross for that meeting, and stayed with him on arrival in England from South Africa.

Age 26; electrical fitter, of Spalding, Lincs. Has raced at Ansty, Cadwell Park, Silverstone, and has had numerous successes in local grass track meetings. Rode in the Junior Clubman's last year on a B.S.A., finishing 56th. Machine, 1940 Triumph “Tiger 70,” bought “very second hand” for £45. Hobbies: Soccer and snooker.
