Geoffrey Read

Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Senior - Norton

Age 35, Geoffrey Read is a garage mechanic from Lower Penn, Wolverhampton. No stranger to the T.T. course, he was second in the 1951 Junior Clubman’s T.T. following this up by an eighth place in the same year’s Senior Manx Grand Prix, when he was also a member of the winning team.

He has twice taken part in the Dutch T.T., finishing 12th in the 1952 Senior class and improving this to tenth place in the 1953 race. The Norton he is riding in this year’s Senior T.T. was purchased earlier this year from D.A. Tutty, and has only been ridden twice to date by its new owner; at Oulton Park on Easter Monday it was placed fifth in the 500 c.c final, while at Averdare Park it was seventh in the 500 c.c. final and fourth in the 1,000 c.c. event, in addition to winning a heat.

Read’s hobby is “antiques” - but not in the motor cycle line, we gather! His entrants are the Walsall Motor Mart Ltd.
