Terry Shepherd

Record type: Motorsport Biographies

Biography: Age 27, Terry Shepherd is a motor trader and lives in Liverpool. He rides in the occasional trial - 'just for fun' - but devotes himself principally to racing. At Silverstone in 1952 he was 12th in the 350 cc Championship race, and he was second in the 1951 350 cc scratch race of the Enniskillen 100. He also says that he has ridden at Eppynt - once - and had to walk home!

In the Island he was a non-starter for the 1952 Junior Manx, having wrecked his mount on the last day of practice; he was 23rd in the 1953 Senior Clubman's (in which he collected his first personal 80 mph lap) and sixth at 82.09 mph in the 1953 Junior Manx. In 1945 he began with a double at Rhydymwyn. In the Senior TT, riding a 350 cc winner at Altcar and third in the same class at Fairwood Aerodrome, while at Brough he won the East Yorkshire Championship. In the 1955 season he won the 500 cc Southern 100 and was second in the Les Graham Memorial Race at Oulton Park, being also placed 36th in the Senior TT. He was tenth in the 1956 Junior TT, but had to retire in the Senior.

Terry was a non-starter in last year's TT owing to a crash on his MV which occurred on the Wednesday morning's practicing. On the two previous days, however, he had been third fastest Senior, so was obviously in good form. And his form has not deserted him this year, for he scored a spectacular win over Bob McIntyre in the BMCRC 500 cc Championship race on Silverstone Saturday.
