Mount: Junior – A.J.S.
Aged 34, a company director, of Creetown, Kirkcudbrightshire, Jack Slater was a regular competitor at Cadwell Park before the war and rode in many trials, sprints and hill climbs in the north country.
He competed in the 1946 Junior Manx Grand Prix finishing twenty-fourth on an Excelsior, and in the Junior and Senior “Manx” of the following year he finished thirty-seventh and twenty-fifth respectively, riding a 350 Norton in both races.
Last year on an A.J.S. he was fifteenth in the 350 class of the North West “200”, but in the Junior T.T. a few weeks later, when running well, he had the misfortune to lock the front wheel on the approach to Ramsey Hairpin, and so crashed and burst the oil tank. In the Ulster Grand Prix, again in the 350 class, he finished twenty-fifth at 79.83 m.p.h. despite a “sick” motor for the last three laps.
His A.J.S. is a new 7R model and he is entered by Allan Jeffries, of Shipley.
Hobbies: Motor cycle racing – and work!
