Frank Mowbray Taubman
Epithet: Artist and sculptor (1868-1946)
Biography: Active between 1894-1938, Frank Mowbray Taubman was an English sculptor, medallist, and painter, born in London, 1868. His father, Robert Taubman, was born c.1841, in Ballaugh, Isle of Man - and worked as a chemist. Taubman is thought to have worked with his father as a chemist up until c.1891, alongside honing his artistic skills, before becoming an artist by profession.
The artist first exhibited his work in 1894. Taubman predominantly produced sculptural work, often with themes in Ancient Greek Myth and portraiture, in Art Deco style. In 1910, Taubmans work was included in the Liverpool Exhibition, without his knowledge or consent - which was in contravention of the rules of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.
In 1911, Taubman was commissioned to sculpt a portrait of Arthur William Moore, Speaker of the House of Keys on the Isle of Man from 1898-1909 - which is now held at the Tynwald Legislative Buildings. The artist died in 1938, in Worcester, England.
