Biography: Extract taken from the Isle of Man times, 29 July 1944, p. 5:
"Manx Hero Dies. / Gallant Rescue Bid in Italy. / News has been received that Lieut. Robert Geoffrey Fargher, a gallant young Manxman, only son of Dr. R.G. and Mrs Fargher, of Wilmslow, has died of wounds received on the Italian front, in an attempt at rescue under enemy fire. Lieut. Fargher, who was 22 years old, was educated at Repton and Brasenose College, Oxford. During his year at Oxford he was a member of the R.A.C. unit of the S.T.C., and was passed immediately to an R.A.C. O.C.T.U. He was gazetted to the Royal Dragoon Guards in March 1942, and left almost immediately for the Middle East, and took part in the fighting before El Alamein and from there to Tunis. After a course in Egypt he became R.S.O. from September 1943 to March 1944 and re-joined his old squadron as second-in-command.
A letter written by his Colonel states that he was wounded whilst in command of an advanced post under heavy shell fire. He left the slit trench to attend to one of his men who had been wounded, and in doing so was severely wounded himself."
