Biography: William Henry McIlvenny was baptised in Belfast (Northern Ireland) September 9, 1849. He married Elizabeth Foster there in 1883 and after his death was buried there on the 8th February 1900. He was a sailor, like his father, and after setting ashore in Belfast he also spent time at Barrow and Preston in England, as evidenced by inscriptions on several of his paintings. In around 1887-1890 he lived in Australia.
