Lonan Old Church
Date made: 1896
Description: On Lonan: "it is a remarkable parish for bleaching; hemp and flax are grown in some quantities." (John Feltham, A tour through the Island of Mann in 1797 and 1798, M 09791)
The painting is from a series of works by Mrs Lucy Emma Lynam, born 1834. It is thought that Lucy Emma Lynam painted the works while staying with her daughter and son-in-law on the Isle of Man. Her daughter, also called Lucy Emma, married a Manxman Sidney Alfred Pizey Kermode, who was the Reverend of Onchan (1862-1925).
