On Foxdale Road near Malew
Date made: 10 July 1877
Description: “Tempted by the cleanliness of a poor hut to enter it with my companion, a young Methodist, who exclaimed to the poor inmate "How happy you are - here you have every thing - health and contentment." "Nay," says she, “I have very little. I have only what I get by spinning, and that is but so much the hank, and so much the pound." "Well, but there are good people to help you." "Good people are but scarce in this world. I do not get much in that way." "Well! But you have health and that is the best of earthly blessings." "It is a great blessing, but I have nothing else." (Dorothy Wordsworth, Journal of a tour through the Isle of Man, 11th July 1828, M 10561)
