Rushen Abbey jam jar

Description: Glazed earthenware 7lb jam jar used at Rushen Abbey & Gardens Ltd, Ballasalla. Label shows 'Raspberry & Apple'.

Rushen Abbey's Jam Factory produced jam until the 1970s. The jam won a gold medal at an exhibition in Liverpool in 1886. Marjorie Walton, who grew up at Rushen Abbey in the 1920s describes in an oral history interview how the jam would be packed in seven pound jars, sealed with the special 'Abbey knot.'
