Description: On St Maughold’s Well: “an old legend relates that is has so prolific a quality, that if a barren woman be placed in the saint’s chair, and take a glass thereof, it imparts fecundity; but it probably lost its virtue, with the loss of the priests in whose custody it used to be.” (John Feltham, A tour through the Island of Mann in 1797 and 1798, M 09791)
Sir Henry Dryden, known as ‘the Antiquary,’ was an archaeologist who travelled throughout Britain and Europe in the nineteenth century.
