Brachiopod
Description: Large brachiopod from the Carboniferous Limestone at Pooilvaaish Quarry, at the bottom of Fishers Hill. Collected in 1930s by Joseph Alfred Oldale, a worker at the quarry.
Brachiopods are similar in appearance to some bivalve molluscs, like scallops, as they have two shells to protect their flesh, but that is where the similarity ends and they are not related. If you look inside the shells they have very different organs.
