'Judy' an Eighteenth Century wooden doll
Date made: c1750
Description: 'Judy' an old Wooden Doll, said to be over 100 years old at time of donation (1939). Belonged to family of Fidler y Chiaru who was the Lord's Fiddler at Castle Rushen. They lived at Kirk Santan in the 1880s. W. L. Clague the coroner was a member of the family. 31 cm overall,only head and torso survive. Turned legs articulated in rectangular slots, arms apparently nailed on. Carved features and inset eyes.
The doll appears to be genuinely of 'Queen Anne' type, dating from about 1750-60 and is comparable to the Victoria & Albert Museum's 'Sophie'
