Description: Old lock and key. Received in 1931 during the Douglas slum clearances.
From a house in Big Well Street, taken during the demolition of a house adjoining to the archway to 'Little Hell'.
Living conditions in some areas of Douglas were cramped and insanitary. The area around Big Well Street was known as 'Little Ireland' or 'Little Hell'. In 1922 Tynwald authorised slum demolition and the construction of wider roads.
