Indian Motorcycles lapel badge
Date made: c1920
Description: A silver [?] Indian Motorcycles lapel badge in the form of an Indian brave's head with feathers in his hair. Presented to the vendor's grandparents by Tourist Trophy rider Bert Le Vack around 1921. That year Le Vack rode an Indian machine to third place in the Senior TT.
Le Vack was a Scottish born engineer and tuner. Towards the end of 1920 he worked for the Hendee Manufacturing Co, who made Indian motorcycles in Springfield, Massachusetts. He joined their London Depot and developed the eight valve Indian engine.
He is regarded as one of the greatest motorcycle racers of the 1920s.
