Mrs Caley's Cottage (Michael?)

Date made: c.1855

Description: “In the course of my walk through the country...as to survey the natural beauties of the Island, I entered into conversation with a great variety of persons, and looked into many of their dwellings…the cottages in general I found to be more cleanly within, than I expected from their exterior." (Nathaniel Jefferys, A Descriptive and Historical Account of the Isle of Man, 1809, M 00904)

Miss Georgina Gore Currie was the niece of Horatio Powys, Bishop of Sodor and Man from 1854 to 1877. Georgina stayed with the Bishop’s family at their residence, Bishopscourt, north of Kirk Michael.
