Description: “We really found it difficult to land, owing to the number of people who crowded upon us on all sides and stared at us as if we were extraordinary beings…The news of the arrival of strangers, had instantaneously spread through the town, and as we were passing through the streets, some young ladies cried out openly to the man who conducted us, “who is it, who is it, for God’s sake tell us?” (The Duke of Rutland’s ‘Journal of a Tour through North and South Wales and the Isle of Man’ 1797, M 02435)
