St Patrick's Isle Pagan Lady Burial Ammonite Fossil

Date made: Viking: 800-1265AD 950

Description: This a natural internal cast of an ammonite shell, in very soft limestone but badly degraded. A central perforation has been deliberately made, probably to suspend the fossil. Often referred to as "snake-stones".

The ammonite was found in the waist area, along with the largest of the amber beads (1984-0016/47) and a second amber bead (1984-0016/46). All three were most likely originally suspended from the waist.
