Majestic Hotel chamber pot
Description: Chamber pot from the Majestic Hotel. White Ceramic with one handle.
Hotel rooms have not always had en-suite bathrooms, so a chamber pot would have been provided for the guest to use at night.
The Majestic Hotel in Onchan was initially built as a private home and first opened as an hotel in 1922. It changed hands several times and was dogged by financial problems and by 1935 the hotel's name had become the Majestic Lido Hotel. The 1937 Guide advertisement for the Majestic Lido Hotel claimed 200 bedrooms, of which 62 had their own baths. It prospered until the Second World War, when it was requisitioned as a military hospital. After the war the Majestic Hotel reopened and continued with varying degrees of success until it finally closed in 1987.
