Woollen 'Tailor's' Quilt
Date made: late 19th century
Maker: Member of Mylroie Family
Place made: Laxey
Description: Woollen 'Tailor's' patchwork quilt.
A striped patchwork quilt made from tweed suit fabric. Each stripe is made of alternating light and dark blue, green, black and brown rectangular blocks. The quilt is backed with a red flannel woollen fabric and is in poor condition.
The quilt is machine-quilted with a topside thread in dark blue cotton and the reverse in a beige or green cotton in a zig-zag pattern. There is no filling.
This quilt is thought to have been made using tailors' remnants, possibly by a member of the family who donated the quilt to the Manx Museum, Messrs Mylroie of Laxey, who were tailors. The quilt was used as a black-out curtain during the Second World War.
