Cross Slab at Kirk Michael

Date made: 1815

Description: "In the middle of the village, and in the centre of the roadway, stands a beautiful memorial pillar; the church gate is opposite, and on each side the gate, on top of a low wall, two other neatly carved crosses have been placed.” (Dr Robert Paterson, Manx Antiquities, 1863, M 02321)

On the sketch is written: "Danish Monument opposite the entrance into Kirk Michael Church Yard, Isle of Man." (Will Latham, 1815)

Sketch by Captain William Latham of Liverpool. In July 1815 Captain William Latham made a tour of the Isle of Man with Mr William Gerard Walmesley Esq of Liverpool, Mr James Leigh of Liverpool and Mr Ralph Greenough of Wigan. Latham made many sketches of the Island during his visit.
