Ayre Silver Brooch Fragment

Date made: Viking: 800-1265

Description: A cut fragment of penannular brooch, one of three pieces of hack silver. During the Viking Age, these ingots were used in the place of numerous silver coins as payment for goods. They contain more than 50% silver. A previous find (2012-0084) of a whole silver ingot is from the same hoard.
