Port Erin
Date made: 1896
Artist: Lynam, Lucy Emma
Description: "Of the cottages, two are public houses…there is no quay or landing place other than is formed by craggy projections of the rocks." (Sir George Head, A Home Tour through Various Parts of the United Kingdom, 1837, M 02445)
The painting is from a series of works by Mrs Lucy Emma Lynam, born 1834. It is thought that Lucy Emma Lynam painted the works while staying with her daughter and son-in-law on the Isle of Man. Her daughter, also called Lucy Emma, married a Manxman Sidney Alfred Pizey Kermode, who was the Reverend of Onchan (1862-1925).
