HMS Racehorse copper sheathing
Date made: Built 1806
Description: Wrinkled piece of sheeting with rivet holes, probably used as sheathing for the hull of the ship. Large copper plates were fixed with copper nails all along the hulls of ships to protect the wood from salt-water and pests.
