The old waterwheel at Laxey
Date made: early 19th century
Description: Mounted watercolour showing the original waterwheel at Laxey which pre-dated the Lady Isabella. The illustration shows the wheelcase with an overhead lade reaching the top of the wheel, a much smaller counter weight, and two unidentified protrusions to the front. The motion of the wheel is transferred to the pumps by a rod duct, and it may be that this original rod duct was repurposed when the Lady Isabella was built. Inscribed 'At Laxey. W.C.' Date believed to be around 1840.
