Description: Metal pan of collecting box from Methodist Chapel, Well Road Hill, Douglas. The wooden handle sawn off.

The Methodist Chapel in Well Road Hill opened 1837 and closed in 1950. It stood roughly on the site of Markwell House. The start of Methodism in the Isle of Man was around, 1775 - later than in many places in the British Isles. In the second half of the nineteenth century, until about 1925 Methodism had significant impact on both Island politics and culture. In the 1930s smaller chapels began to close and membership declined.
