Two-piece dress

Description: Dress comprising a bodice and skirt in wine red satin.
Plain skirt trimmed with four matching vertical velvet bands and back gored for bustle. 36 3/4 inch long.
Tight fitting, boned bodice trimmed at neck and wrists with gold and red metallic braid which also incorporates a band of metallic red beads. Lace at wrists lined with natural calico. Machine-sewn and fastened with hooks and eyes. 16 1/2 inch centre back. 30 inch waist.
The dress belonged to Mrs (Dr) Jones of Reeves Cottage, Four Roads, Port St Mary who died aged 96 around 1919. She was the daughter of Lieutenant Lewis Buckle Reeves who served in the 'Victory' at Trafalgar. Her first husband was Lieutenant Galliard.
The donor was given the dress by her cousin who was a companion to Mrs Jones for 25 years.
