Date made: 19th century

Description: A cotton framed medallion patchwork quilt made of coarse furnishing fabrics zig-zag quilted onto brown cotton. It is a heavyweight patchwork quilt composed of a geometric pattern of concentric squares and rectangles surrounding a central panel containing a square set as a diamond. The borders alternate between plain and patterned fabric with a large patterned rectangle around the edge of the quilt. The quilt is made entirely of heavyweight furnishing fabrics predominantly green, red and purple and often with black or golden backgrounds. The majority of patterned fabrics are large floral prints.

The quilt is backed with a coarse brown cotton patched in one corner. It is hand-quilted with black cotton thread in a zig-zag pattern with the edges machine stitched. The quilt does not contain any filling.
