Cotton Framed Medallion Quilt

Date made: 19th century

Description: A cotton framed medallion patchwork quilt with a geometric pattern composed of a central square set as a diamond in red and white striped cotton surrounded by a blue square and concentric rectangles. The quilt is made of large pieces of cotton dress fabrics of various colours and patterns. The blue, white and red (now faded to pink) fabrics include florals, striped, checked, pictorial patterns and plain.

The quilt is backed with pieces of plain white cotton the worn edges of which have been blanket stitched to prevent further fraying. The quilt does not contain any filling and has not been quilted.
