Description: Large Grandfather clock, varnished inlaid case standing. Face painted white with black numerals, bearing the name 'Basil Mylrea Peel'. The face surround is decorated with pictures of 4 roofless churches, and two identical bridge scenes. The case is topped with a brass globe and eagle. Maker: Basil Mylrea.
Between 1790 and 1850 there were more than forty individuals who conducted clock and watch making businesses in the Isle of Man. These types of pendulum clocks were the world's most accurate timekeeping technology, and long case clocks, due to their superior accuracy, served as time standards for households and businesses.
