Internment camp money box

Description: Hand-made wooden money box, in form of chest of drawers. Top drawer pulls out to reveal an 'old penny' sized circular depression. A coin placed in this is precipitated into box when drawer is removed. Hardboard base, held by 4 screws, allows recovery. 1943 penny in situ.

Made in the Derby Castle Work Rooms, by civilian internee, 1940.
