Gore's Rock Shop Paper Carrier Bag

Description: Carrier bag. Yellow thick paper bag with dark blue printing and 2 thick yellow cord handles 'Gore's Golden Isle Rock Estd 1893. Branches at Douglas and Port Erin Isle of Man'. Wide rectangular bag to carry long sticks of rock. From Gore's Rock shop, C astle Street Closed 1986 demolished 1987. 17.5 x 35.6 cm (folded flat).

Sticks of rock with the Manx three legs of Man running through them would have been a popular tourist souvenir for friends and family at home. Gore’s Rock Shop in Castle Street, Douglas finally closed its doors in 1987, as part of the redevelopment of Douglas town centre with the new Strand shopping centre.
